Abraham Maslow was responsible for creating the theory called Hierarchy of Needs. It was created in the 1950's in America and it is now valid for understanding human motivation, management training and personal needs and development. The theory is usually designed into a pyramid shape design and the theory contained 5 stages and what he said was that the things that people needed the most and could survive on with just these were at the bottom then as the hierarchy got further up he then said that if people had these, they were then extras and people that had the things in the middle would then be motivated to get further up the chart, meaning they will become more successful.
